Disco ain't Dead

Disco ain't dead, and its not gay either!

Last night Disco hosted a media party to help announce its presence as new venue in Old Town Scottsdale.  Writers and Photographers from ReverseHappyHour.com, 944, AZCentral.com, DK Media, and others were invited to dance, party and enjoy an open bar all night - which we did!

The media party was not a Grand Opening.  Disco actually opened its doors 3 weeks ago without any large scale promotions or marketing (no Grand Opening plans have been announced).  The soft opening was a way to work out the kinks and test the concept.

Disco is owner John Nemeth's vision of a "post-modern interpretation of the classic discotheque from the 70's.  A place you went to for the music and the people."  This ideology can be seen in the plain, warehouse styled grey walls that surround the $100,000 LED, touch sensitive dance floor.

John laughed, "If you're not at the bar, you should be on the dance floor!"

Disco has already faced some scrutiny among the ever judgemental Scottsdale market because of 3 major factors.

First, Disco took over the space that housed the short lived Whisper Lounge.

Redesigned with an updated sound and lighting system, a functional patio, and solid concept to operate under, Disco looks like they have solved the problems that plagued Whisper Lounge.

Second, Disco opened with a Tuesday night promotion that catered to the Gay and Lesbian community - no big deal, except labels are hard to lose and easy to get in Scottsdale.

Disco was quickly labeled as a gay bar before they had a chance to say otherwise.  The disco era was flamboyant in nature, but that does not mean you have to be to enjoy the atmosphere.  The Tuesday night promotion has already been reworked to appeal to the general market.

Third, the original staff did not include a lot of familiar faces.

Let's be honest, people want to go "where everyone knows your name".. or at least your drink.  The new staff has greater roots in the industry and should help bring in the masses.

Good luck Disco and thanks for the drinks!
