SIX it Goodbye
Monday, 11 May 2009 14:12

After months of rumors and speculation, one of Scottsdale's veterans finally closed its doors. Well, their landlord did at least... and he didn't just close them, he locked everyone out.

Problems began almost a year ago when SIX cut the "restaurant" aspect out of the SIX Lounge and Restaurant business plan. Then, a few months ago they lost Brian Durkee and subsequently their reign over Wednesday nights in Scottsdale. Throw in a troubled economy, too many investors, a melee of new bars and a lack of money spent on promotions and you have a recipe for disaster.

When guests arrived at SIX last weekend, a note on the door said, "Sorry, the party has been moved to Mickey's Hangover". Mickey's, as you may or may not know, is owned by some of the same investors as SIX which makes us wonder what's going to happen to Mickey's?

There have been rumors of Mickey's looming bankruptcy for quite some time, and the property is currently on the market. But SIX and Mickey's aren't the only ones in trouble.

Maloney's Tavern in Tempe, which was named one of the Top Sports Bars in America by Sports Illustrated, closed their doors shortly after their huge St. Patrick's Day Party in March. Where as Samurai Cowboy can't seem to get their doors open after loosing investors and subsequently their funding.

Whispers of PCL closing their doors for the summer for "remodeling" is possibly the biggest surprise. One thing is for sure, Scottsdale's nightlife is going through some major changes.
