Scottsdale's ever growing nightlife is adding yet another new venue to its already competitve scene. Not to confuse anyone, ReverseHappyHour.com loves every bar because we love to... well, drink. But the question 'another new bar, seriously?' seems to be popping into everyones' head.

The new bar we're all referring to is Club Deep, but is it really a newbar or just a new concept, or neither?

Located at 10345 N. Scottsdale Rd. in Scottsdale, Club Deep is actually taking over The Buzz Nightclub's location. So to answer the first question: No, Club Deep is not a "new" bar. There have only been a few "new" bars to open in recent history. Most notably Cream Stereo Lounge and The Lodge, both in Old Town Scottsdale.

Both of these places were NOT bars before the current owners took over the property (sorry American Junkie, you used to be the Tequila Hut). While The Lodge did have the advantage of previously housing a restaurant, giving it some infrastructure to support the transition, Cream Stereo Lounge was nothing more than a beauty salon.

The fact of the matter is that opening a "new" bar is extremely expensive due to the cost of liquer licensing ($100,000 +), infrastructure development, inventory, etc, not to mention the cost of purchasing a suitable location to begin with. Cream Stereo Lounge was rumored to have spent over $1.5 million on their location, and in this economy it's hard to scrape together that much.

As far as Club Deep being a new concept, here's what owner Brain Speed had to say in his craigslist.com job post notification:

Well Mr. Speed, you can certainly get a job seeking twenty-something year old excited, let's hope you can get would-be bargoers excited too! As far as we're all concerned, Arizona Beach Club comes to mind. Or if you want a bar with a similar concept that's still in business as a reference, think Margarita Rocks on Mill.

We're not saying that Club Deep can't be or won't be successful, we're just saying that it's really not that original. Which means, and we hate to say it, Club Deep is not a new bar or a new concept, rather a new decor in an old location. Let's all go there and get drunk anyways!
